Principals of Fundraising

We fully support the purpose and goals of ECFA and display its seal proudly to reflect compliance with its membership standards.

Cookson Hills Christian Ministries
Principles of Fundraising

Funds donated to Cookson Hills Christian Ministries will be used to support the mission of CHCM, which states:

We, a ministry of independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, supported by charitable gifts from those churches, individuals and other organizations, seek to honor Jesus Christ in our ministry to children and families by helping them become and develop as His disciples.

We are committed to excellence in providing a Christian environment for children in our care while out of their own homes. We strive to develop healthy child-family relationships, to provide an education that is Christ-centered, and to train and encourage children and their families to live according to the truths of Scripture.

Focusing on our Mission as stated above, it is our intention to apply the following principles to fund raising activities:

  1. God's word will be used to test the appropriateness of all our fund raising activities.
  2. We will apply Biblical standards for honesty, integrity and accountability to all our fund raising activities.
  3. We will factually inform supporters of our needs without resorting to pleading, begging or high pressure methods of fund raising.
  4. Information regarding needs, will generally be communicated to supporters through our news letter, personal contacts and church visits. Specific inquiries will be responded to in an appropriate and timely fashion.
  5. We will always encourage supporters to give to their home church first before they give to this ministry.
  6. All donations will be receipted to the donor in accordance with applicable IRS regulations.
  7. Donors may choose to restrict or designate their gift to a particular project or need. However, CHCM will only accept gifts that are consistent with our ministry Mission and that would meet needs generally recognized by our Board of Directors.
  8. Our employees are compensated by a combination of cash salary and non-cash benefits that generally meet all their needs. They are not allowed accept direct or designated support from donors.
  9. Donations requested and received for a special project or need, will used solely for that need up until that need is met. Further designated donations received after the need has been met will be used for ongoing expenses of the ministry, unless instructed otherwise by the donor.
  10. We will treat donor records as confidential. Names and addresses will not be made available to other organizations unless requested by the donor.
  11. We will provide full disclosure to supports concerning how donated funds are being used. This will normally be accomplished through our annual report.
  12. In 1956, our Board of Directors made a commitment to "no-indebtedness" that remains as a vital part of the ministry's financial foundation. Today the only indebtedness, other than trade credit, allowed by the Board is the occasional use of short-term borrowing. This only allowed in order to manage cash flow while awaiting the release of invested funds or funds already committed to us. In practice, this commitment places our reliance totally upon the Lord and His provision as delivered through His people.
  13. We do not accept state or federal assistance that includes any stipulations, regulations, or requirements that might restrict our ability to accomplish our mission.
  14. It is our intention to conduct ministry affairs in such a way as to fully comply with all governmental laws and regulations.
