After hearing that we have horses, you might feel like you need to saddle up just as soon as you move in and get your spurs unpacked. You might be ready to show off your hook-shot, mighty overhand serve, or expensive soccer cleats. On the other hand, you may have faked a sprained ankle in gym class once before in order to keep from running laps. You may have no idea what "off-sides," "side out," or "lane violation" means. And yet, while you may think it's crazy, there's probably a good likelihood while you're here you will find yourself trying on a basketball jersey or practicing the intimidating look of a soccer goalie.

When it comes to life at Cookson, sports and other extracurricular activities often provide great opportunities for students to learn new skills, stay active, make friends, and find new areas where they can succeed. There have been many soccer, volleyball, and basketball players here that would never have thought they'd be playing a team sport. The small size of our school especially allows for the previously inexperienced player to learn and play.
It's true. Not everyone is cut out to be a star athlete. Please don't feel like you HAVE to play sports in order to be successful or be accepted by others here. There's plenty of other things that can help you get connected to other students like yourself.
For example, you may wish to participate on the Bible Bowl team, sing in the high school choir, or help the student council party committee plan for a Fall Festival. Or you may be interested in learning about photography, scrapbooking, sculpture, etc. through an adult mentor associated with the 4-Him Program. Things are always changing and opportunities are always opening up. Hopefully once you get settled in you'll come to see that Cookson isn't a place where you'll "die of boredom," but instead is a place where you can learn and experience new things.
