Questions to ask when seeking placement:

Parents often want to know what questions they should ask when seeking help from child care professionals. Our intake coordinator has developed the following list to help you find as much information as possible about child care facilities you are investigating.

  2. What is the cost of your program?
  3. Will you accept any insurance payments for costs connected with your program?
  4. Do you have a private school on grounds?
  5. If you have a private school, are the classes accredited so that class credits will transfer back to public school?
  6. If you use the public school, what safeguards are in place to prohibit my child from skipping school. Getting involved in unsafe activities such as drugs, alcohol or associating with the wrong crowd?
  7. Do you encourage church attendance? What denomination?
  8. Do you provide counseling on grounds with licensed, accredited counselors?
  9. What kind of discipline measures do you uses and how effective are they?
  10. How long has your facility been in existence and how successful have you been in working with difficult children?
  11. What kind of training do your house parents and staff receive each year?
  12. How do you handle crisis events such as runaways, drug/alcohol/tobaccor use, sexual activity?
  13. What kids of activities can the children participate in? Are these activities located on grounds of off? If off grounds, what kind of supervision is there?
  14. What is the criteria for students participating in activities? Can they lose the opportunity for participation and if so, on what grounds and for how long?
  15. Do you have an emergency placement policy? Do you have an emergency discharge policy? What are the conditions for emergency discharge? How long will the parents have to come and get the child?
