GUIDELINES FOR ADMISSIONCookson Hills Christian Ministries has been serving the needs of Children since 1957 by providing a quality, home living environment and an excellent Christian education. We see each child as an individual and work together with the parents and the courts if necessary to provide the very best structure possible. Cookson Hills provides homes for children from ages birth through 18 or graduation from high school. Older Children (12 and over) must realize their need for placement as perceived by their parents or the court. They must be willing to cooperate as a part of our program. Parents are expected to maintain their involvement with their child through correspondence, phone calls and a level of regular financial commitment that is determined after acceptance. Parents are also expected to cooperate with Cookson Hills in planning for the care of their child. Placement is expected to last at least two years. The cost of child care is largely underwritten by supporting churches, individuals and organizations. However, it is not our intention to remove the entire financial responsibility from the parents. Placement is never contingent on the parent's ability to pay for services. Cookson Hills is licensed by the state of Oklahoma as a "Residential Child Care Facility" with both Group Care and Foster Care available. Professional Memberships are held with the Oklahoma Association of Children's Institutions and Agencies, Southwestern Association of Executives of Homes for Children, and the Association of Christian Children's Home. Cookson Hills has a very thorough and careful admissions process. Our desire is to provide the best care possible in order to meet the needs of the child and his/her family. The admission process may take 4-6 weeks. Emergency placements are not accepted. Cookson Hills offers a quality, state accredited Christian school for children in grades K-12. Small classes and instruction tailored to meet the needs of each child offer the basis for our school. For more information go to the section labeled Christian Education. DISCIPLINEA written discipline policy is followed which identifies appropriate disciplinary measures. This policy is carefully explained to parents and students and agreed upon before a child is accepted into the program. VISITATION AND RELEASE POLICYAn initial 30-day adjustment period exists during which the child may not have family contact except for emergencies. Thereafter, regular visitations are held once monthly. Family visits whether at Cookson Hills, a day away from the facility, or in the child's home, are planned with each family with regard to the progress of their child. |
